About Dr. Robert Bleyl
In January, 1966, while teaching graduate-level courses in highway transportation engineering at the Yale University Bureau of Highway Traffic, Dr. Robert L. Bleyl began a part-time consulting practice. That practice, which dealt with forensic highway transportation matters, continued on a part-time basis during his service on the engineering faculties of the Pennsylvania State University and the University of New Mexico. In 1980, Dr. Bleyl resigned his tenured Associate Professorship at the University of New Mexico to pursue a full-time engineering practice, known today as Bleyl Forensic Engineering, Inc.
Since 1966, the firm has undertaken more than 1,800 separate cases. As its sole professional, Dr. Bleyl has given expert testimony in several hundred of these assignments. About half of the time the firm is engaged on behalf of claimants and plaintiffs and about half of the time on behalf of defendants.
Prior to his teaching career, Dr. Bleyl served as the Deputy State Traffic Engineer with the Utah State Department of Highways. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from the University of Utah. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Traffic Engineering and a Certificate in Highway Transportation Engineering. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Transportation Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1971.
Dr. Bleyl has authored numerous technical articles on traffic engineering and accident reconstruction topics and has been continuously licensed as a Professional Engineer (Civil) since 1967. He is currently licensed in Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. In 1968, the Institute of Traffic Engineers awarded him the Past Presidents' Award in recognition of professional excellence in Traffic Engineering. He is a member of several technical societies, including the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was one of the founding members of the National Academy of Forensic Engineers.
